Good Magic Preparation
In preparation for Good Magic, it is
important to cleanse the workplace. By placing sea salt across
the thresholds of doorways, you prevent negative forces from entering your
workspace. Soothing
music and fragrant incense will raise the vibration of Good Magic in your
workplace. To do basic
Magic, you must have basic tools. Here is a list of the most needed ordinary
tools:
THE CAULDRON - The traditional magic tool. This can be a fire-proof
terra-cotta or cast iron pot.
It is used to boll herbs and other concoctions.
OIL LAMP AND CANDLES - These are most important because they are the only
form of illumination
possible when the sunlight or moonlight are not enough. Electric light is, in
fact, as bad for magic
as garlic is for ghosts.
NOTEBOOK AND PEN - Choose a cloth-bound book, not leather, and use it to
record your experiments,
your spells, your magical dates The pen should be a simple goose-feather quill,
but if you find it too
difficult to write with that, choose a good fountain pen -- not a biro or
felt-tip! -- and use it only for magic.
A MIRROR - This is essential as mirror magic is very effective and easy.
It does not have to be a big
one, but when not used for magic it must be covered with a cloth of black
velvet. If you want to
avoid embarrassing questions it is better not to use a wall mirror for this
purpose!
THE CUP, THE INCENSE HOLDER, THE BRASS BOWL, THE BURNER - These serve to
represent the four
elements in the magic circle, and you also always need them in front of you in
the opening ceremony.
The cup (representing water) serves to contain water or wine and should be
silver or ceramic.
The incense holder (incense representing air) can be a ready-made one (brass or
wood) for
incense sticks, or if you know incenses well could be a proper censer or a
thurible. The brass bowl
(representing earth) -- could also be ceramic -- serves to contain rice or other
grains. The burner
(representing fire) is a cast iron little pot or similar object that serves to
light a small wood fire.
The above objects can also be naturally used in any rituals or incantations in
which they might be
needed. If, for example, you need to drink a potion, the cup can be used; if you
want to burn a herb,
use the burner, and so on.
THE BROOM - Just can't do without it! Choose an old garden one, and show
it to your friends
when they inquire about your magical activities.
The peacefulness of your Magic workplace is important for serene concentration.
Candlelight is my
favorite lighting. Use a compass to find which direction faces East; for to do
Magic, you should face
the direction of sunshine and light. Facing East gives a boost of vitality and
freshness to your Magic
spells. A comfortable pillow and low table or regular chair and kitchen table
are needed for you to
sit on and create your altar in meditation. Angel statues, Buddhas, or any
talisman placed on
your work table will protect your space.
It is then time to cast a circle around your workplace. To make your circle
round, place the chalk on
a string and connect the string to the center of your workplace. Extend the
string and keep it taut
while drawing the circle. The circle should always be drawn clockwise and North,
South, East,
and West should be marked by white candles.
The East candle will represent air, thoughts, incense, and expression.
Clear your mind as you light this candle.
The South candle will represent fire, intuition, burner, and initiative.
Let your energy burn inside you, igniting your powers.
The West candle represents water, emotions, cup, and depth.
Feel the water in your body pulsing. Fill your cup and drink, replenishing your
strength.
Earth is represented by the Northern candle.
Sensations, nourishment, and security will fill your senses as you enjoy this
strong light.
As you light these candles, their power enhances your powers.
Now, sit within your circle and let this power be yours.
You will find yourself drawn to one element over the others.
Follow your intuition and face that candle that draws you to its light.
Inside your circle you are safe and protected. Your powers to do Good Magic are
now ready
to spring forth and serve you. I will describe a simple spell to get you
started. As your powers
grow, so will your abilities. Magic is personal power and can be used to help
yourself and others.
Always use it for good and thank the Goddess for her blessings.
A spell to release stress in your life:
This Magic requires that you have a bouquet
of daisies.
Daisies bring the feelings of simplicity, clarity, and playfulness into your
life.
When all evening activities are over, prepare yourself for Magic and place the
flowers in
front of you. Let your eyes rest on the daisies and relax.... while looking at
the flowers,
let your mind be empty.
Call upon the Goddess to lead you to which element to face to say your prayer.
For example, let us
say the element which answers is air. From the magic of the four elements, you
are drawn to
the candle of air. Repeat three times, this prayer:
Through the daisy's power
A simple spell is done
In the work I succeed
It is harm to none.
Now write the prayer (spell) on a clean white piece of paper. Fold it three
times and leave it next
to your bedside for three nights. On the morning after the third night, all your
problems will have
disappeared. You will go to work with fresh and renewed energies, and you will
be able to enjoy
all the little things that make life worthy of living.
